The CAB service not only gives advice and information, it also lobbies and advises government departments and other decision makers about improving laws and policies. This advice is established on the experiences of the people who bring their problems to us so it carries much weight.

The Bureau is an independent charity, a member of the National Association of Citizens Advice Bureau and is responsible for its own funding.

To date the bureau has been funded by a partnership of local government grant aid and donations, any shortfall being sought from these funders - failing which the bureau would have to restrict its service. Since March 2000 the bureau has benefited from a Legal Services Commission contract in Debt and Welfare Benefits.

All our volunteer advisers have to undertake an intensive training course before they are able to give advice to clients. We are able to provide up the minute information using a national CAB information system which is updated frequently to accommodate the latest changes in legislation.
